Before you is the Guide “I Have the Right!”, which aims to provide information on the protection of human rights and freedoms in Montenegro, highlighting the most important institutions and organizations working in this field, their competencies, as well as specific legal mechanisms through which the protection of human rights and freedoms can be achieved.
The Guide is designed to enable young people, through familiarizing themselves with institutions and mechanisms for the protection of human rights in Montenegro, to become actively involved and make a direct contribution to their protection. In this way, together we can build a society without prejudice, where everyone is given equal opportunities and possibilities, regardless of personal characteristics or beliefs.
We believe that this Guide will provide every reader with the opportunity to gain new knowledge, enhance existing knowledge, and most importantly, inspire young people to become the change they wish to see in society.
This Guide is only a starting point and offers basic guidelines related to human rights. Mechanisms of protection provided through international, regional, and national systems are not sufficient on their own to guarantee full protection and respect for human rights—individuals themselves are key actors in preserving and advancing them. Only by developing a collective awareness based on understanding and respecting diversity can we strengthen our community and ensure consistent respect for guaranteed human rights, thereby creating a society free of prejudice.
Therefore, young people—remember: you have the right to live in a world where your dignity and rights are respected, and together we can build a better society for all. Because WE HAVE THE RIGHT!
The project “I Have the Right!” is implemented within the program “AT THE RIGHT TIME – Support to Human Rights Defenders and CSOs in the Field of Human Rights Promotion and the Development of Democratic Culture,” carried out by the NGOs Juventas, Help Montenegro, the Centre for Monitoring and Research (CEMI), Queer Montenegro, and the Bona Fide Open Center, with the support of the European Union Delegation – “European House,” through the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights for Montenegro 2022 (EIDHR), and co-financed by the Ministry of Public Administration.
