As part of the project “Wealth in diversity – the peculiarities of minority peoples”, we created recommendations that represent the summarized results of the project and key activities related to research on the position and rights of national minorities in Montenegro, analysis of the situation in the area, conducted focus groups at workshops and screenings of the documentary film “Wealth in diversity” throughout Montenegro.
The recommendations were formed through a participatory process in which members of minority communities took part, and reflect their real needs, challenges and proposals for improving their position in society.
The proposed measures include:
Establishment of the National Platform for Intercultural Dialogue
Introduction of mandatory education on human rights and multiculturalism in public administration
Creation of a fund for local initiatives of minority communities
Revision of teaching programs and textbooks
Formation of local advisory bodies for minority issues
Development of media ethics and responsible reporting
Continuous digital campaigns
Monitoring and publicizing the results of inclusive policies
These recommendations contribute to the realization of the main goals of the project, namely the improvement of non-institutional forms of support for members of minority nations and other minority national communities in the fight against discrimination. They additionally promote the spirit of tolerance, mutual respect and understanding, while encouraging intercultural cooperation and reducing ethnic distance.
Recommendations are publicly available, published and forwarded to all relevant institutions for review, thus ensuring their transparency and wider applicability in shaping policies. Ultimately, they represent an important step towards strengthening social cohesion and confirmation of Montenegro’s commitment to European values and standards in the field of human rights.
The project “Wealth in diversity: peculiarities of minority peoples” is supported by the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights within the competition “Diversity enriches Montenegro”
