Are young people in Podgorica active? Do they know all the mechanisms and ways through which they can express activism and advocate for their rights and a better community?
We sought to answer these questions during the sixth workshop within the Academy “Youth Activism Towards the EU”, titled “The Role of Citizens”, with a special focus on young people.
Over two hours of engaging and interactive work, participants were guided by the esteemed lecturer Duška Šljivančanin, who helped them better understand the definition and phenomenon of civic activism, its key principles, and the role of citizens in shaping society. Special emphasis was placed on youth activism and how a single individual can spark a “chain reaction” and become an initiator of major change.
Through practical exercises, we also analysed current social issues and developed various advocacy and mobilisation methods within civic activism, aiming to address these challenges effectively and encourage participants to take personal responsibility for the changes they wish to see.
The workshop was organised with the goal of understanding, encouraging, and empowering the potential of young people to drive change in their communities through activism. We hope it will serve as a starting point for new youth-led initiatives in our community.
The MASTER team is implementing the Activism Academy as part of the project “Youth Activism Towards the EU”, supported by the Capital City of Podgorica @glavni_grad_podgorica through the Public Call for the Funding of NGO Projects and Programmes for 2023.
