MASTER participates in the work of the negotiation team for Chapters 30 and 31

Executive Director of MASTER, Mr. Andrea Popović, has been appointed as a member of the negotiating working groups for Chapter 30 – External Relations and Chapter 31 – Foreign, Security and Defence Policy.

At a session of the Government of Montenegro, Decisions were adopted on the establishment of negotiating working groups for the preparation and conduct of Montenegro’s accession negotiations with the European Union, covering areas of the EU acquis related to Chapter 30 – External Relations and Chapter 31 – Foreign, Security and Defence Policy.

We are particularly pleased to note that we are members of a total of four negotiating working groups.

With regard to the negotiating working groups for Chapter 30 and Chapter 31, our responsibilities include:

  • participating in the analytical screening and assessment of the alignment of Montenegro’s legislation with the EU acquis in the areas of Chapter 30 – External Relations and Chapter 31 – Foreign, Security and Defence Policy;
  • monitoring the implementation of obligations arising from the negotiating positions for Chapter 30 – External Relations and Chapter 31 – Foreign, Security and Defence Policy;
  • contributing to the drafting, implementation, and reporting on action plans and other key documents relevant to Montenegro’s EU accession process in the fields of external relations and foreign, security and defence policy;
  • participating in the preparation and revision of Montenegro’s EU Accession Programme, as well as monitoring and reporting on its implementation with regard to Chapters 30 and 31;
  • preparing contributions and participating in meetings of the Subcommittee on Trade, Industry, Customs and Taxation, as well as the Stabilisation and Association Committee;
  • taking part in expert missions and performing other tasks relevant to the negotiation process, in cooperation with state administration bodies and other relevant institutions in the areas covered by Chapters 30 and 31.

Through this engagement, the MASTER team will further contribute to the advancement of policies in the fields of external relations and foreign, security and defence policy.
