Equal under the law! – a podcast on the human rights of LGBTIQ persons in Montenegro

We are pleased to present the podcast series “Equal under the Law!”, implemented within the project of the Network for European Policies – MASTER, with the support of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights of Montenegro.

The podcast series “Equal under the Law!” is dedicated to the protection and promotion of the human rights of LGBTIQ persons in Montenegro, with the aim of strengthening public awareness of the importance of equality, non-discrimination, and improving the position of the LGBTIQ community, particularly in the areas of health and social protection, employment, as well as access to justice and mechanisms for protection against discrimination.

The series consists of six episodes, which are available on the YouTube channel of the Network for European Policies – MASTER.

The episodes feature the following guests:

🔹 Dr Tea Dakić – psychiatrist, Head of the Day Hospital at the Psychiatric Clinic of the Clinical Centre of Montenegro (KCCG)
In the conversation, she spoke about the acceptance of sexual identity as a key factor in mental health and the importance of support without prejudice in the process of psychological empowerment of LGBTIQ persons.

🔹 Tea Gorjanc Prelević – Director of Human Rights Action (HRA)
In the episode, she spoke about the relationship between law and reality, experiences in the field of human rights, legal protection of the LGBTIQ community, and the challenges in implementing existing legal mechanisms.

🔹 Iskra Đurišić – activist of the Spektra Association
She speaks about the position of trans persons in Montenegro, community work programs, different gender identities, the everyday challenges trans persons face, and where society currently stands in terms of understanding gender diversity.

🔹 Staša Baštrica – Director of Queer Montenegro
She speaks about the position of LGBTIQ persons in Montenegro, the challenges they face, as well as the importance of visibility, understanding, and equality in society.

🔹 Aleksandra Marjanović – Montenegrin Foundation for HIV and Viral Hepatitis
She speaks about how to get informed and protect oneself, about HIV and sexual health, the importance of prevention, testing, and responsible behaviour, as well as the fight against prejudice and stigma.

🔹 Dina Knežević – Senior Advisor at the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro (Ombudsman)
She speaks about the role of the Ombudsman in protecting rights, as well as the relationship between citizens and institutions in the context of reporting and protection from discrimination.

The podcast episodes are hosted by Anđela Žarić, whose professional and sensitive approach contributes to the quality of the conversations and creates space for open and informed dialogue.
