Taking into account the interests and needs of consumers, and recognizing that they often face imbalances in economic terms as well as a lack of awareness of their legally guaranteed rights, the project “An Educated Consumer – A Protected Consumer” has been designed with the aim of empowering citizens regarding their rights and obligations under the Law on Consumer Protection, while also presenting available legal protection mechanisms.
In its 2023 Progress Report on Montenegro, the European Commission noted that the country is moderately prepared in the field of consumer protection, and that some progress has been achieved in strengthening consumer protection and improving enforcement capacities.
The Commission’s recommendation in this area highlights the need for full alignment of national legislation with EU consumer protection policies.
With this in mind, in addition to educating citizens about their rights, obligations, and protection mechanisms under the Law on Consumer Protection, the MASTER project “An Educated Consumer – A Protected Consumer” also aims to present European regulations and practices adopted in EU member states, in order to improve the consumer protection system and provide guidance for better understanding and promoting sustainable consumption.
The target group includes all citizens and traders in the Montenegrin market, local communities, as well as non-governmental organizations. The project is planned to be implemented in Plav, Mojkovac, Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Budva, and Kotor.
MASTER continues to implement projects and activities aimed at benefiting citizens in all areas.
